John Kerry's selection of John Edwards as his running mate makes some political sense. Mr. Edwards won't bring gravitas to the Democratic ticket, but he will inject it with zip and charm. However, if Mr. Kerry intends to adopt the Edwards brand of populism as the dominant theme of his campaign, that will be a political mistake. Yet that is exactly what Mr. Kerry seems to be doing
